A snowflake and a sunbeam

Image
Since the kids get so many days off of school (it's a bit ridiculous!), we decided not to sit around at home and waste away President's Day (last monday). We took Sun, Minsu and Lauren up to Salem, where we borrowed my parents' van (thanks!) and took Shane, Siera and the rest of the crew up to the mountains for a snow day. We packed a lunch and grabbed some tubes from good old Salem Heights and were on our way! Monday was a bit gloomy in the valley, but up on the mountain, it was blue sky and actually warm. This made for very easy driving (no chains needed!), along with very hard snow. Shane and Siera had some trouble staying on their tube! Minsu about to fly off his tube... Lauren...happy until she took a face full of snow. Random boy watching me get snow sprayed in my face. Everyone tubed down the hill and threw ice balls at each other, until we were too tired to do it anymore. Sun had been avoiding the snowball rights all day, but in the end, she got nailed in the eyebal...

House hunting

Image
Life is still ticking away here in Adair Village, with more parenting challenges and smiles. Minsu and Macie are getting along famously, and we have signed Minsu up to play Majors baseball in March. Lauren likes to take photos of us....I don't like it too much. I almost broke my back lifting Lois and Youngi at youth group. And we try to take advantage of the rare sunny days by playing basketball in our cul-de-sac. In serious business, Bryan and I went to talk with mortgage broker Tyler Westby on Monday to see if we could get a home loan. We were thinking about buying the house we are currently renting, but that turned out not to work because this house is too expensive. So we enlisted the help of our friend Josh (who is a real estate agent) and are searching for houses in the area that will fit our needs. We are trying to cash in on the stimulous money and low interest rates, but it's really up to God whether or not this all happens, so pray that we stay content!

Being a single mom day 1

So for all of you out there who have been wondering what the heck is going on in our lives, here's an update: Bryan and I moved to Adair Village in December in preparation to host two Korean students at our house. For those of you who are saying, "And Adair Village is...", Adair Village is a small town just 10 minutes north of Corvallis. By small town, I mean there are no stop lights, not even a blinking one, and a volunteer fire department summoned not by pagers or cellphones, but by a city-wide air raid/tornado siren that goes off at ungodly times of the night. The city is a collection of houses built in two different decades. The south part of town is a collection of older duplexes either owned by young families or rented by college students who name their pit bulls Budweiser and Heineken . The northern part of town (where we are blessed to live) is relatively new development, built in 2003, housing families and the occasional retiree. Adair is also home to Santiam C...

New Years festivities

Image
Once again, Bryan and I got together with our high school/college friends for New Years. This year was at Alicia's house, with Kari and Kyle, Mal and Josh, and Melissa. I'm not sure what happened in this above photo....I think we were trying to be funny... We had a great time eating, playing "What's Yours Like?" and participating in our new year traditions. Most of us have been getting together for New Years for 10 years now and it is always a great time to catch up and have some laughs. Below is the boys and their tradition of doing something completely random.....I might never understand. And we drank our cider outside like we have every year.....it was raining though, this time!

SNOW!

Image
No, Macie doesn't have dandruff, that's snow! We got our first snow in our new house yesterday, even if it was kind of puny. Macie was very excited about the snow and wanted to eat it too.

Day 5 & 6 - Epcot on Day 5 and back to Hollywood Studios and Blizzard Beach on day 6. So I was super tired last night, and too lazy to blog, so anyone reading this is getting a double dose today! Yesterday we went to Epcot, which we learned stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. We went on quite a few rides, never having to wait longer than 20 minutes again! We've had such good luck! We even saw Nemo, his dad Marlin and Dorri! We also went on Mission: SPACE (below). It was awful. Bryan loved it, but the thing almost made me puke. It was a virtual reality thing that spun you all around without you realizing it. It was not fun, but I smiled for the camera anyway. We also rode Spaceship Earth, which came with cool 3-D glasses! They took a picture of us at the beginning of the ride, and then they put our heads on futuristic bodies for a story at the end. Epcot also showcases different cultures, including Morocco, where they like to belly dance. Later that n...

Day 4 - Magic Kingdom

Image
Today was Magic Kingdom! Here we are representing our Alma mater. Later, I put Bryan in stocks. He was not happy about this. We got there pretty close to the opening, and so we headed to Splash Mountain first, figuring that it would be busy the rest of the day. We walked right on, probably because most people were too cold to ride it. This is the photo from our first drop. I had fun, Bryan seems scared again... This is the photo from our second drop, which we also walked right onto later in the afternoon. It was still a bit cloudy and cold, and no one was riding, so we went back to take a photo in honor of the Koreans! After this plunge, we finished the ride, and were about to get unloaded, but they wouldn't let us out. Apparently, the ride broke down, so we were stranded there for over half an hour waiting for the all clear. It sucked because we had gotten soaked on the ride, and were really cold....but eventually we got off and headed out for more fun. We took a trip to Tom...
